Dürrstein & Co., Dresden / Zenith, Case No. 91981, 56 mm, 128 g, circa 1920
A Swiss minute repeating hunting case pocket watch with "Grande Sonnerie" and Carillon, with original box and certificate
Case: 14k rose gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, 3 hammers / 3 gongs, 2 barrels, screw compensation balance.
This exquisite Swiss pocket watch with a quarter hour strike that can be switched off was sold by the Dürrstein company in Dresden. The company was founded in 1874 with the sole purpose of marketing the timepieces made by Lange & Söhne in Glashütte. In addition to the highly priced Lange watches and soon the more reasonably priced "Deutsche Uhrenfabrikation Glashütte" pieces, Dürrstein eventually extended their range to include own brands such as Monopol or Union Glashütte as well as other high-quality Swiss timepieces such as this Zenith model. The complicated movement has a two-way winding system for the watch and the striking mechanism with carillon striking on three gongs and was developed by Zenith around 1910.
