The object that was called as lot no. 91 in the busy auction room at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport
Hotel was of superior museum quality: John Mottram’s magnificent clock with musical automaton had
been created specially for the Imperial Court of China. The clock is one of the most sumptuous pieces
ever produced by the London maker and has survived the centuries in perfect condition -
it was worth as much as 530,000 euros to the Chinese collector to take this treasure home ...

a pocket watch that was given as a gift by Napoleon’s brother Jerome Bonaparte, King of Westphalia.
The watch bears a concealed engraving "Donné par le Roi" (a gift from the king) and a secret acrostic
message "HEURES D'AMOUR" (love hours) -

Dr. Crott Auctioneers held their first auction of 2016, their 93rd
, on Saturday,
May 14, 2016. Even though it was a "long" bank holiday weekend,
the Skyloft at the Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel filled up easily with all
the lovers of fine timepieces who had come from near and far. On Friday
afternoon and Saturday morning the collectors had made good use of
the allocated preview time and studied all the lots in great detail.

To the best of our knowledge this is one of only eight such
