186* Augustin-André Héguin, 57 x 92 x 22 mm, circa 1815 A very fine and extremely rare and diamond-studded gold enamel snuff box, almost as new Case: 18k gold, case maker’s punch mark “AAH” in a lozenge (Augustin- André Héguin). Rectangular with rounded corners, sides and base with chased and engine-turned geometrical pattern, borders of lid and base ornamented with blue Champlevé foliate enamelling. Corners with blue enamelled, fluted pilasters. Hinged sablé lid with a large set diamond in each corner and an oval enamel medallion in the centre; exquisite polychrome miniature painting: a lady wearing an Empire style dress with turban and cameo brooch. Augustin-André Héguin Héguin became master in Paris on April 16, 1785, with maker of gold boxes Jean-Joseph Barrière as his sponsor. Héguin worked at the Place Dauphine and remained there until 1789, when he moved to the Rue de la Barillerie. He stayed in that location until 1793 and is recorded as having entered a second mark in a lozenge shape in 1804 or 1805 from a workshop in the Rue de la Monnaie No. 11. Héguin moved back to the Place Dauphine - which was by then called Place de Thionville - in 1812; amongst the businesses he supplied were Le Petit Dunkerque and Martial Bernard.
