A very fine, heavy quarter repeating half hunting case clock watch with quarter hour/hour self strike "Grande Sonnerie" - in a lavishly decorated gold case - for the Indian market Case: 18k gold, inlaid radial Roman numerals, lavishly engraved and chased floral and leaf decoration, engraved geometric design in the band, florally engraved pendant, gold dome, case maker's punch mark "JA", pusher for repetition at "2", lever for "strike / silent" at "4". Dial: enamel, radial Roman numerals, blued spade hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, signed, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, 2 barrels, English lever escapement, ring balance, fine florally engraved balance cock.
Cooke & Kelvey Cooke & Kelvey was founded in Calcutta in 1857 and specialized in retailing fine watches for the Indian market. The watches usually had Swiss movements by renowned makers such as Audemars Piguet. However, quite unusually this watch is fitted with a highly complicated English movement.
