A very fine triple-cased half quarter repeating verge pocket watch with "repoussé" decoration "Temple of the Muses" Case: protective case - brass, applied shagreen with stud decoration and sound holes. Outer case - 18K gold, à goutte, Repoussé ornamentation: Urania, heavenly muse of astronomy with a celestial globe; Melpomene, singing muse of tragedy with a tragic mask and weapons; Thalia, muse of comedy with a laughing mask; Polyhymnia, muse of sacred hymns; Terpsichore, happily dancing the round dance; a figure with a battle axe. All are framed by a volute border. Open worked edge with foliate scrolls and flowers on front and back, large outer hinge. Inner case - 18K gold, open worked edge with engraved foliate scrolls, cartouche with volute ornamentation and engraved portrait of a lady. Below the pendant engraved temple view; repetition is activated by pushing the pendant, rear bell. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, Louis XVI gold hands. Movm.: fine full plate movement, keywind, applied florally engraved and pierced ornaments, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, solid round movement pillars, three-arm steel balance, fine florally engraved, pierced balance cock with fantasy bird, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.
