A very fine case of a Renaissance "clock-watch“
Case: brass, firegilt, allover rich open work floral chasing and engraving. The hinged front with spoke-shaped open work detail showing the hours; chased weaponed equestrian scene in the centre. Back decorated with mascarons and figures, leaf scrolls and battue motifs around the edge. Dial: copper, firegilt, applied white enamel cartouches with radial Roman numerals, centred engraved foliate scrolls, finely cut hand. Movm.: full plate movement, applied scrollwork, ornamental stones, three-arm brass balance, pierced balance bridge with engraved scene of Christ on the cross flanked by two mythological creatures.
