, Movement No. 24739, 27 mm, 13 g, circa 1830

A lady's extremely rare, ultra-thin diamond-set miniature gold enamel pocket watch with Caliber Bagnolet - with original box made of bone

Case: 18k gold, engine-turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled, central diamond-set bouquet of flowers, reeded band. Dial: enamel, radial Roman numerals, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, gilt, lavishly florally engraved, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.

Bagnolet Caliber
In the bagnolet caliber the movement is inverted and the train reversed. The idea was to make a very thin watch by reducing the thickness of the bridges and the dial and to eliminate the cuvette. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with the invention of the bagnolet caliber.

Du Bois & Cie.
In 1785 Philippe Du Bois and his sons founded the Du Bois & Fils 1785 watch company at the family seat in Le Locle. Du Bois had already established extensive business connections all over Europe and America as a cloth merchant, which made things much easier for the start-up watch company. During the 19th century Du Bois & Fils opened branches in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and the United States and business boomed. Due to its proximity to the trade fairs the German Frankfurt branch was particularly important.
