A very fine, large and heavy hunting case pocket watch with independent split seconds chronograph, flying fifth of a seconds indicator "seconde foudroyante" and patented Juergensen bow setting

Case: 18k gold, engine-turned, à goutte, reeded band, numbered and signed gold dome with engraving "Patent 1867 January 15", chronograph pusher at "12" and "5". Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, "Seconde Foudroyante", blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, ébauche: Emile Baud, signed, nickel-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, screwed gold chaton, 2 barrels, tandem winding, screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.

Jules Juergensen (1808-1877)
He was born in Le Locle 1808 as son of the watchmacker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Kopenhagen Juergensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Juergensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition. Lit.: E.
