Patek Philippe Genève

A gentleman's fine and rare Geneva wristwatch with chronograph - sold on 01/09/1940 - with original box and Patek Philippe extract from the archives

Case: 18k gold, push back. Dial: silvered, applied gold indexes, auxiliary seconds, 30 min. counter, gold baton hands. Movm.: bridge movement, rhodium-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 8 adj., 23 jewels, very finely ground bevelled chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, gold screw compensation balance.

Ref. 130
Reference 130 was first produced in 1934. It was available in stainless steel, yellow gold and pink gold; only three pieces were ever created in white gold. No doubt for the connoisseur this is one of the most desirable sport watches ever to come from the Patek Philippe firm - its perfect proportions and the large and clearly-readable dial encircled by a slender, concave bezel which gives the dial an even greater luminosity make this a much sought-after treasure. Reference 130 usually has one button at 2 o'clock and another at 4 o'clock. Only some few examples were produced with a single button on the crown. Originally the reference was used with Victorin Piguet ebauches, later with Lemania ebauches. Today no more than a single piece is known where a single button chronograph with Ref. 130 is fitted with an experimental 12''' movement.
A similar watch is published in "Collecting Patek Philippe Watches" by M. and O. Patrizzi, Guido Mondani Editore, Genova, 2000, p. 262.
