A very fine decorative gold enamel minute repeating hunting case pocket watch with centre seconds - for the Chinese market Case: 18k gold, engine-turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled, the front cover with a centred polychrome enamelled cartouche depicting a gallant scene, the back lid with a portrait of a young lady against an engine-turned translucent enamelled background, Champlevé enamelled decoration on the band, the borders set with half pearls, gold dome, case maker's punch mark of Maurice Ditisheim (angel with bell and hammer), slide for repeating mechanism, glazed movement. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, Louis XV hands. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, frosted, gilt, 2 hammers, 2 gongs, screwed gold chatons, screw compensation balance, index spring fine adjusting device, counterpoised lever.
Maurice Ditisheim (1831-1899) Swiss watchmaker and entrepreneur. In 1858 Ditisheim opened a workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds that quickly grew into the manufactory "Maurice Ditisheim"; in 1894 the factory began producing watches under the brand name "Vulcain". Ditisheim was one of the first patrons of the MIH (Musée International d'Horlogerie), which was the the international watch museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
