Joachim Ravenberg Muellertz
Born in Goedvad on May 13th, 1810 as the son of schoolteacher Christopher Muellertz and Else Torsdattor, died in Århus on June 13th, 1903. Apprenticed in Århus with watchmaker Johan George Holstebroe; he finished his apprenticeship in 1830 with a 30 hour table clock. After 1830 Muellertz left for Copenhagen and was employed at the Johan Carl Ludvig Steinmetz factory, where he worked until 1832 and made pocket watches with duplex escapement and second hand. He left for Switzerland and established a factory for the production of movements and complete watches in Chaux-de-Fonds. Muellertz lived in Switzerland until 1878, when he returned to Århus and set up a workshop as a watchmaker and instrumental maker in Nymunkesgade 26. He attended the exhibition in Copenhagen 1888 with several clocks and received medals. All parts of his carriage clock movements were completely hand-made and have interesting approaches to solving problems; there is for instance a winding hole where one has to turn a leaver to switch between the two barrels, or a divided driving wheel on the chime housing. One of the wheels on the chime housing has a special kind of planet gear to drive the quarter hour chime.
