Vaucher Frères à Fleurier

, Case No. 753, 57 mm, 104 g, circa 1815

A gentleman's very fine, extremely rare, skeletonized minute repeating pocket watch with pin wheel escapement


Case: 18k rose gold, engine-turned, reeded band, case maker's punch mark "CHL", pusher for repetition via pendant, glazed movement. Dial: enamel chapter ring with Arabic numerals, double serpent gold hands. Movm.: skeletonized full-plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, florally engraved, 2 hammers, 2 two-coloured gongs in the shape of a snake, applied rack strike with mirror-polished steel levers, pin wheel escapement, three-arm ring balance.

Vaucher Frères à Fleurier
Founded by Alfred Vaucher at Fleurier. After his death in 1840 the sons Alfred, Edouard and James-Henri continued the business and specialized on dealing in Chinese clocks. In 1843 they opened a branch in Kanton and later another one in Shanghai. Also a ship's chronometer dated around 1860 and signed "Vaucher Frères" is known.
