Jules Jürgensen, Copenhagen, Movement No. 8707, Case No. 8707 11176, 52 mm, 120 g, circa 1857

An elegant hunting case precision pocket watch
Case : 18k gold, engine-turned, reeded band, à goutte, numbered and signed gold dome, case maker's punch mark "JJ". Dial : enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, precision-cut gold hands. Movm. : bridge movement, German silver, keywind signed, club-tooth lever escapement, large gold screw compensation balance, engraved regulator scale with long index hand, counterpoised lever.

Jules Juergensen (1808-1877)
He was born in Le Locle 1808 as son of the watchmacker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Kopenhagen Juergensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Juergensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
