A pair-cased verge pocket watch with "repoussé" decoration and matching Repoussé chatelaine with pendant and key


Case: outer case - 22k gold, "repoussé" decoration, pastoral scene in the style of Antoine Watteau (1684-1721), engraved and chased volutes and scrollwork, large lateral hinge. Inner case - 22K gold, polished. Corresponding firegilt Repoussé chatelaine. Dial: gold, Champlevé, inlaid radial Roman hours, signed, Louis XV hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, applied, florally engraved and pierced silver ornaments, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, square baluster pillars, three-arm steel balance, fine florally engraved, pierced silver balance cock with mascaron.

Clockmaker Matthew Skinner apprenticed with Francis Hill (1670–1700); he qualified in 1713 and became a master of the Clockmakers’ Company in 1746. One of Skinner’s movements is held by the Guildhall Museum in London.
