This is a lot of a former auction!

Robert Brandt & Cie., La Chaux-de-Fonds

, Case No. 997, 44 mm, 32 g, circa 1840

A gentleman's early ultra-thin pocket watch

Case: 18k gold, florally engraved back side, signed and florally engraved gold dome. Dial: silvered, lavish floral engravings, eccentric chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, visible gold ring balance with steel mask at "12", blued spade hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, cylinder escapement.

Bagnolet Caliber
In the bagnolet caliber the movement is inverted and the train reversed. The idea was to make a very thin watch by reducing the thickness of the bridges and the dial and to eliminate the cuvette. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with the invention of the bagnolet caliber.
#40371
Case: very good, slightly worn
Dial: very good
Movm.: very good, capable of running
