Breguet "Horloger de La Marine Royale", Case No. 3871, 53 mm, 99 g, circa 1822
A gentleman's important quarter repeating pocket watch with secret signature, sold on October 28, 1822 to "Duriveau, Officier Superieur du Genie" for 1.320 Francs
Case: 18k pink gold, case design "quatre baguettes", polished, engine-turned band, pusher for repetition at "2", case maker's punch mark "LJ 58" (Joly). Dial: enamel, Breguet numerals, secret signature below "12", signed: "Breguet et Fils", blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, gilt, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, ruby cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, blued balance spring with bimetallic temperature compensation curb on the index, shock protection-"parachute".
Lieutenant Colonel Duriveau was at the French engineering corps and later president of the "l'École polytechnique à Paris". Alexandre Dumas mentioned Duriveau in his memoirs from 1863.
