M. J. Deby (DeBy) , first name Joseph, was born in Herve, Wallonia, in Belgium. He was the son of Mathie Deby, a watchmaker in the small town, some 25 kilometers east of Liège. Deby moved to the university city of Leuven, in the Flemish Brabant province. There he became master watchmaker on the 26th of October 1794. The clock shown dates from 1820 and was probably made in Switzerland or France. The "Pendule en biscuit", Direktorium Periode was auctioned by Tajan S. A. in Paris on the 19th of June 2012. The dial is signed "J. Deby à Louvain".
