The Wendell family descents from Evert Jansen Wendell, who came to America from Embden in 1640; he is mentioned in the early records of the province New Netherland located on the East Coast of the country. Evert Jansen Wendell settled and became the founder of a distinguished family that is now one of the oldest families in the State of New York.
Ten Eyck Wendell was born at Cazenovia in 1857; in 1880 he graduated as B.A. from Yale and received the degree of LL.B. in 1882 from Columbia College Law School. Ten Eyck Wendell had a country home in Cazenovia but was also an avid traveller; he was a member of the Union and St. Nicholas clubs.
