Case: 20k gold, the borders on the front and back side decorated with engraved geometrical pattern and applied enamel flowers, the back side with an opaque enamel plaque depicting a genre painting, à goutte, large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, stone-set hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, chain/fusee, square baluster pillars, three-arm steel balance, large engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.
Genre painting
Genre painting shows everyday scenes of customs and traditions of people in a generally realistic manner, without any religious, mythological or historical background. Genre painting only developed into its own category during the 16th and 17th century and is most popularly used to describe the works of Dutch painters.
