Vauchez à Paris, Movement No. 268, 45 mm, 65 g, circa 1780
A fine gold enamel verge pocket watch studded with half pearls - with matching 22k gold chatelaine "à quatre couleurs"
Case: protective case - copper, gilt, glazed on one side, à goutte, large lateral hinge. Inner case - 18k gold, the back side engine-turned and decorated in the centre and at the edges with translucent green enamelled foliate decor and half pearls on a sablé ground, the bezel studded with half pearls, engraved band, large lateral hinge. Matching 22k gold chatelaine with key and signet "à quatre couleurs", open work decor: flower, vases, pigeons, fruit and military equipment, length 125 mm. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, Louis XVI hands. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance, engraved and pierced balance bridge.
Vaucher / Vauchez, French watchmaker
Vauchez (Vaucher!) worked in Paris around 1800 and was probably a descendant of Daniel Vaucher. Daniel Vaucher was born in Fleurier and moved to Paris in 1760, where he became a master watchmaker. His wife and 6 children stayed in Fleurier; the children later followed their father to Paris. Jonas-Frédéric Vaucher, Jean-Henri-David Vaucher, François Vaucher, Jean-Jacques Vaucher, Samuel Vaucher and Isabelle-Salomé Vaucher became watchmakers themselves and the wonderful watches the family created were usually signed with "Vauchez en la Cité".
