A very fine diamond-set ring watch with original box


Case: 18k Gold, florally chased and engraved shoulders, turning diamond-set bezel for winding the movement, case band with secret door to reveal the hand-set, glazed back side, hinged ring band with inner signature, inner diameter 16 mm. Dial: enamel, radial Roman numerals, blued spade hands. Movm.: round miniature movement, nickel-plated, three-arm brass balance.

Robert Hamilton & Co.
Robert Hamilton was born in 1772. He trained as a silversmith and moved to India in 1808 to open a jewel- and silversmith business in Calcutta under the license of the East Indian Company.
Robert Hamilton soon became a very weathly and well-respected man. He opened branches in others parts of India and were soon known to be the most famous and renowned British silversmith in India. He retired from the business in 1811 and devoted the rest of his life to collecting fine paintings; his collection included paintings by Rubens, Velazquez and Holbein. Hamilton died in 1848.
