Johann Georg Kreit(t)mair in Minchen (Munich), 78 x 55 mm

An important one-handed, drum-shaped horizontal table clock with alarm - with original leather case


Case: copper, silvered, moulded, polished, three bun feet, rear bell. Dial: silvered, engraved hour chapter ring with inlaid radial Roman hours I-XII and outer chapter ring with inlaid Arabic numerals 13-24, between ring with twelve dots for night reading, central alarm disc with elaborate foliate pattern, blued single iron hand with flower head tip. Movm.: round brass full plate movement, firegilt, signed, screwed on decorations, chain/fusee, 1 barrel for alarm, 1 hammer, blued iron parts, verge escapement, three-arm iron ring balance without balance spring, florally engraved, pierced balance cock.

Johann Georg Kreit(t)mair was a descendant of the clockmaking family Kreittmayr (also Kreutmeyer, Khreitmaier, Kraitmayr, Kreutmer, etc.) of Friedberg near Augsburg. Johann Georg worked as a watchmaker in Munich. He was born in Friedberg and recorded as a citizen of Munich from 1634 on; he also did his apprenticeship with master Messmer in Munich and produced his master’s piece there. Kreitmair died in Munich in 1660.
