An exquisite Swiss gold enamel snuff box "Bacchus and Ariadne"
Case: 18k rose and yellow gold, maker's punch mark "RL&C" (Rémond, Lamy & Co.).
Rectangular box with chamfered edges, base and sides with engine-turned shell pattern and translucent cobalt blue and opaque black enamelling. The edges are decorated with Champlevé enamelling. Hinged lid with very fine miniature painting of Bacchus and Ariadne in the manner of Jean-Abraham Lissignol. Framed by gold leaf and flower ornaments and delicate blue enamel border.
The partnership of Remond, Lamy & Cie. was only in existence between 1801 and 1804.
