Lot 523

Gothic Jar-Proof Watch Co., Case No. 1929, 44 mm, 46 g, circa 1929
An extremely rare, decorative gold enamel pendant watch with matching watch chain and original box
Case: 14k gold, push back with fine polychrome enamel painting. Dial: silvered. Movm.: bridge movement, screw compensation balance.
This slim pocket watch is in excellent condition. The rims on back and front are finely engraved; the back shows an exquisite opaque polychrome enamel medallion: a young man on a lavishly decorated horse bending down to a woman scantily clad in a shawl. The man’s clothing appears to be medieval. A spa temple can be recognized in the background; the scene is signed "E. V." in the bottom left corner.
The Gothic Jarproof Watch Co. was at 37 W. 57th Street in NYC in 1950.
