Lot No. 246* (93rd Auction)
Patek Philippe & Cie. Geneva, Switzerland, Movement No. 174037, Case No. 279218, 73 g, circa 1915

A gentleman's elegant minute repeating pocket watch made for Greenleaf-Crosby Co. in Jacksonville, Florida, with original box and original certificate
Case: 18k gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement, 8 adj, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, gold screw compensation balance.

Greenleaf & Crosby Co. were founded by Damon Greenleaf and J. H. Crosby in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1868. The proud 13-storey company building in Jacksonville (dating back to 1927/1928) is living proof of the successful company whose name it bears. Alas, we do not know who W. B. Oliver of Baltimore was, to whom the engraving on the dome is dedicated. We can only admire his watch, a fine and delicate timepiece with a tuneful minute repeater in excellent condition; the movement bears the name of Greenleaf & Crosby as recipients.
