Lot No. 353 (93rd Auction)
International Watch Co., "IWC" Probus-Scafusia / 1 ère Classe Beyer-Zürich, Movement No. 433514, Case No. 455908, 51 mm, 94 g, circa 1909

A gentleman's fine Schaffhausen pocket watch delivered to Beyer jewellers in Zurich
Case: silver, silver dome with dedication engraving. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, screw compensation balance.

The IWC movement is rhodium-plated and lavishly decorated, a surface refinement, which is hard to find at IWC. A fine and generous gift by textile manufacturer Schafroth in Burgdorf , to his employee Jakob Hug for 38 years with the company. Equally enjoyable to look at is the Châlet Schafroth in Burgdorf - open to visitors for some years now - which is a magnificent example of the lustre of the belle époque.
