A very rare verge pocket watch with date and very fine polychrome enamel painted dial in an excellent overall condition

Case: gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance.

Enamel dials of this quality are very rare. The very finely painted scene shows a pair of unclothed lovers carving their name in the bark of a tree; in the background is a putto holding a torch.

Tardys states that Swiss watch and clockmakers Meuron & Comp. worked in Paris in the early 19th century. The company had premises in Neuchatel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Paris and Geneva. They offered a wide range of horological instruments and specialized in the production of watches as well as clocks.
