Enamel dials of this quality are very rare. The very finely painted scene shows a pair of unclothed lovers carving their name in the bark of a tree; in the background is a putto holding a torch.
Tardys states that Swiss watch and clockmakers Meuron & Comp. worked in Paris in the early 19th century. The company had premises in Neuchatel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Paris and Geneva. They offered a wide range of horological instruments and specialized in the production of watches as well as clocks.
