An exquisite and rare French dressing table strut clock revolving with cast relief panel by the famous medallist René Baudichon: "PAR LA GRACE DE DIEU"

Case: silver, partly gilt, inlaid green glass panel. Marvellous cast bas-relief: corn ears and flower garlands, revolving central panel showing an elderly couple sitting beneath an oak tree; the back shows a child picking apples from a tree and is inscribed "PAR LA GRACE DE DIEU" ("by the grace of god"). Signed in the bottom right corner. In the upper part is the clock with diamond-studded revolving bezel for winding. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, bezel winding, screw compensation balance.

René Baudichon (1878–1963) was a French sculptor and medallist. The artist was born in Tours, France, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in his native town, and graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He is known for his fine art medals, which are considered a form of exonumia. These include a medal commemorating the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. He also created in 1922 an award-winning hood ornament in the form of a caricature lion for the automobile company Peugeot.
