Lot 49

French, Case No. 1255, 42 mm, 56 g, circa 1780
A remarkably decorated verge pocket watch "á quatre couleurs" with corresponding costly decorated gold chatelaine "à quatre couleurs" with key and fine signet with carneol and portrait of a Greek philosopher
Case: 22k gold, case maker's punch mark "SDB". Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm steel balance.
The eye-catching "à quatre couleurs" harvest theme on the back side shows vegetables/fruits basket with rake, scythe and straw hat. The "à quatre couleurs" gold chatelaine with key and signet with carneol and portrait of the Greek statesman and general Perikles complements the ensemble. Chatelaines of solid gold are very hard to find.
