An exquisite, large pair-cased half quarter repeating pocket watch with "repoussé" decoration and corresponding gilt "repoussé" chatelaine "Telemachus and Calypso"
Case: outer case - 22k gold. Inner case - 22K gold, movement protection cap, rear bell. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, duplex escapement, three-arm steel balance.
The outer case of this remarkable pocket watch by John Brockbank is in excellent condition and shows in addition to the fine floral repoussé ornamentation a mythological scene: "Telemachus in the company of his mentor with Calypso". The inner case is similarly exquisitely finished; the scroll decoration is partly open-worked to amplify the sound of the repeater. The balance cock is lovingly decorated with the portrait of a sovereign, the plate shows marvellous floral engraving and the movement has a large diamond endstone.
John Brockbank apprenticed from 1761 on with Joseph Harding in London. He and his brother Myles were members of the Clockmaker‘s Company until 1806.
