Jaeger- LeCoultre "Chronometre Automatic Geomatic", Movement No. 1015509, Ref. E399, Cal. 883S, 36 mm, circa 1965
A gentleman's rare automatic vintage wristwatch with date - CHRONOMETER - with original box, certificate and operating instructions
Case: 18k gold. Dial: silvered. Movm.: rotorwind movement, Glucydur balance, second stop device.
This precision watch is an extremely attractive example of a wristband chronometer. Only about 2300 pieces were produced in gold by Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Géomatic was produced from 1961 through 1970.
The Géomatic was a follow-on model to the manually-wound Geophysic of 1958. While that was a "tool watch", the Géomatic was intended to be worn as an elegant fashion statement, embracing science and technology but not intended for practical use by scientists and explorers. Like the Geophysic, the Géomatic is an officially-certified chronometer, an unusual distinction for a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch.
The case back of the Géomatic features a gold disc with the "planisphere" logo found on the special Geophysic watches presented to US submarine commanders.
