Pascal Hubert à Rouen, 59 mm, 178 g, circa 1700
An exquisite verge pocket watch "Oignon"
Case: firegilt, finely chased and florally engraved with foliage decoration. Dial: firegilt, chased and engraved, enamel cartouches with blue radial Roman numerals, separate enamel cartouches with blue radial Arabic numerals for the minutes, blued steel hands. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, ring blance with "mock pendulum", fine florally engraved balance cock with mascarons.
French watchmaker Pascal Hubert was born around 1625 and according to Tardy he became a master in 1649. He worked with Jacques Gloria Sen., who was one of the first makers to create watches without fusee. Hubert died probably circa 1701.
