Charles Oudin, Horloger particulier de l’Empereur et l’Impératrice, Horloger de la Marine, Palais Royal No. 52, Paris / Louis Audemars à Brassus, Movement No. 18857, Case No. 8523, 47 mm, 91 g, circa 1850
A precious gold enamel pocket watch with jumping seconds
Case: 18k gold, black enamel with inlaid monogram, case maker's punch mark "AM" "LA", in the back dedication engraving "Souvenir du pauvre enfant". Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement, gold screw compensation balance.
It is a rather pensive mood that is reflected in the exquisitely enameled engraving inside the back cover: "Souvenir du pauvre enfant" - "In Memory of a Destitute Child". Was this piece commissioned by someone remembering their childhood? The watch itself is a very fine and precious piece. The case is covered allover with black enamel on gold. This top quality watch was ordered from Charles Oudin at Louis Audemars in Brassus; the gear train is made from solid red gold.
