Lot 376

Corum, Swiss, Movement No. 37292, Case No. 5668, Cal. ETA 2472, 34 mm, circa 1965
A rare vintage automatic wristwatch with pulsation scale, centre seconds and date, so called "doctor's watch"
Case: 18k gold, push back. Dial: silvered.
As this watch - intended to be worn by medical doctors - has no chronograph function, the dial was fitted with two pulsation scales. The Aesculapian staff, the symbol of the medical professions, is shown above the date window.
This timepiece is in excellent condition; the beautifully aged dial has acquired a gentle ivory-coloured patina. The large, straight lugs and the domed dial make this doctor’s watch by Corum appear larger than it is on the wrist. The watch is powered by the automatic calibre ETA 2472, which was introduced in the early 1960s. The off-centre minute wheel and the bidirectional winding system were very much state of the art at the time.
