An attractive table clock in mint condition
Case: bordeaux red moiré, glazed. Dial: gilt. Movm.: gilt, torsion pendulum.
At 27 cm high and 23 cm wide, the "Atmos Royale" is considerably larger than the "normal", usually quite plain Atmos clock. The protruding base and the bun feet give this model an almost luxurious appearance, which is emphasized by the striking red lacquer and the unusual gilt dial. The clock is a first edition "Royale" fitted with calibre 526 - as is the second series, while a third series produced in the 1980s was using calibre 540.
The Atmos (for atmospheric clock) takes its energy from from the expansion and contraction of a capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas that responds to changes in temperature and barometric pressure. The produced energy winds the mainspring. According to the makers of the clock, a temperature difference of 1 Kelvin creates a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.
