The Wakmann Watch Co. was founded in 1946 by Icko Wakmann in New York and imported several high-quality watch brands for the North American market, the most famous of them being Breitling timepieces. Wakemann had formed a partnership with Breitling in 1947 and imported their cockpit clocks for the American military as well as for civil aviation.
After World War II, Wakemann began producing their own watches in parallel to the sales and distribution business; they were also supplied with watches by the Swiss company Charles Gigandet S.A. in Tramelan. Wakemann sold only a few watches with double signatures.
The hand-wound chronographs with date, day of the week and month indication proved to be very popular and are even now highly sought-after by the collectors because of their attractive design and the superb movements they were fitted with.
This wrist chronograph is particularly appealing because of its modern size and the attractive Reverse Panda Dial; it is also in excellent condition – the edges are crisp and the signature "yacht" engraving on the back is still perfect.
