The movement is inscribed "7 Messidor An 9", which is the 26th of June, 1801 in the Gregorian calendar. It is the date when Abraham Louis Breguet received the patent for his tourbillon, which he had developed and tirelessly worked on over 10 years. Even today the tourbillon regulator is regarded as a technical masterpiece produced only by the most accomplished makers.
The Marine Tourbillon chronograph "Grande Complication" is fitted with a titanium tourbillon cage and the manual-wound calibre 554.3; the negative effects of gravity in non-horizontal positions are compensated while the passing of the seconds is marked. The mainspring, the escapement wheel and the anchor are made of silicon.
The chronograph pushers with 30-minute and 12-hour counters match the watch’s sportive, maritime background with their wavelike shape – they also repeat the undulating lines of the gold dial’s guilloche pattern. The Marine 5837 Tourbillon Chronograph is once again a brilliant realisation of Breguet’s virtuoso skills in merging sportive functionality with supreme watchmaking.
