This beautiful, cast firegilt bronze palanquin is magnificently ornamented with rococo-style relief elements on all sides. The visible panels are decorated with cartouches showing scenes with playful putti; on top of the litter sits a magnificent ornament on volute feet supporting a large, three-dimensional fleur-de-lys.
This extravagant travel clock is proof that there was almost no limit to the creativity and skill of the French casemakers. The palanquin is illustrated in "Carriage and other Travelling Clocks" by Derek Robert, Atglen, 1993, p. 115.
