The Parisian watchmaker Jean Argand was born in Geneva on September 17, 1695. He was the son of Charles Argand (1663-1749) and Marie Soret (1664-1743), daughter of the watchmaker Barthélemy Soret. His grandfather Louis Argand (1612-1695) was married to Suzanne Mussard (1624-1697), daughter of the goldsmith Jean Mussard l'aîné (1584-1658) from Blois and relative of the Huaud brothers.
Jean Argand died on 1 December 1769 in Saint-Denis de la Chartre in Paris and was buried in the Chantier de d'Appoigny.
