A fine Augsburg verge pocket watch in a triple-case with Repoussé ornamentation "The Conversion of Paul"
Case: transport case - silver, leather covered, applied stud decoration. Outer case - silver, Repoussé ornamentation with a scene from the New Testament, showing how Saul became the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus. Inner case - silver, pierced and hand-engraved case band decorated with foliage, fantasy birds and mascarons, rear bell, movement protection cap. Dial: silver champlevé. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, three-arm brass balance, pierced and engraved silver balance cock.
The Augsburg watchmaker Nicolaus Delle became a master in 1732; on May 10, 1733 he married the widow of watchmaker Joseph Anton Schoener (who had died a year earlier) in Augsburg, which enabled him to be self-employed. Delle was originally from Gdansk.
