A decorative verge pocket watch in an enamel case "The Bird Hunting"
Case: silver, polychrome enamelled. Dial: enamel. Movm.: fine full plate movement, signed, gilt, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance, very finely engraved pierced balance cock.
The beautiful enamel painting shows a variety of birds; the back is decorated with a huntsman presenting his prey to a noble lady. The small signed movement is ornamented by a delicate silver balance cock.
Thomas Fri(e)dl was probably a native of Augsburg, who settled in Salzburg in 1751 and became a master on June 19, 1751. He was active to 1781 at least; some other good quality watches made by him are also known.
