The production of Patek Philippe’s original "Jumbo" Nautilus 3700 was discontinued in the mid 1980s and replaced by the smaller Nautilus reference 3800 with centre seconds in 1981; this midsize model came in a 37,5 mm case. During the early years of the new millennium, larger size wristwatches became more popular and in 2004 a new edition of the original Nautilus Jumbo reference 3711 in a 42 mm case was launched. The watch was available only in a white gold version with a case that was slightly thicker to incorporate a sapphire crystal back, and had a deep black dial and a centre seconds hand. After a run of only two years, production was discontinued in 2006 when the new Nautilus models commemorating the 40-year anniversary of the iconic timepiece came on the market. Consequently, only very few examples of reference 3711 have been produced and less than 30 of them have ever been sold at auction.
This timepiece comes from the original owner and has never been offered for sale at auction.
