Urwerk à Genève, "UR-101 No. 5", Case No. 5, Model "UR-101-38", 38 mm, circa 2000
A gentleman’s nearly new and extremely rare self-winding wristwatch with original box. This is the 5th example of model "UR-101" launched at Baselworld in 1997 by the newly founded watch factory Urwerk
Case: 18k gold, screwed on back, screwed crown, original buckle. Dial: gold, semicircular aperture for hour display with Arabic numerals. Movm.: rotorwind movement, beryllium bronze and Teflon, 21 jewels.
Technically, the complication is based on two discs controlled by beryllium bronze Geneva stops. One disc carries the odd hour figures; the other the evens. The watch movement is a kind of rotating bridge, which turns through 360-degrees in 120 minutes.
UR-101 and UR-102
The first URWERK models – the UR-101 and UR-102 – are launched at Baselworld 1997 at the stand of the AHCI (Horological Academy of Independent Creators) where they were exhibiting as associate members. With its minimalistic "wandering" hour, reminiscent of a satellite or planet moving across the sky, the UR-101 and UR-102 were the first timepieces embodying URWERK’s ambition to make art that tells time.
