A verge pocket watch in a gold case "à quatre couleurs"
Case: 18k gold, the bezels with stylized acanthus foliage, the back cover with chased decoration in high relief "à quatre couleurs" depicting a loop, oak, flower heads, a quiver, arrows, a torch and a pair of doves, large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, signed, pierced filigree gold hands. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, conical movement pillars, three-arm steel balance, engraved, pierced balance bridge.
Jean-Pierre Gregson
Gregson originally came from England. In 1776 he was appointed watchmaker to the king in Paris. He was one of the first watchmakers of his time to use the Lépine calibre. In 1787 Gregson founded a watch manufacture in Braille. Source: Tardy "Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais", Paris 1972, p. 272.
