A highly decorative gold enamel fob watch in the shape of a lyre studded with half pearls and paste stones - with box
Case: gold enamel, short chain. Dial: enamel. Movm.: miniature full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance.
This remarkable pendant watch is decorated on the front with opaque light blue and translucent cobalt blue enamelling and applied gold foliage scrolls decorated with paste stones; the bezel is studded with half pearls. The back shows opaque black enamelling and is decorated with applied gold scrolls and paste stones. Central enamel portrait of a young lady holding a lyre. The sides are ornamented with blue and white Champlevé stripes.
Philippe Terrot was born in 1696 in Pont-en-Royans in France; he died in 1781 in Saconnex near Geneva. Terrot was made a refugee in 1700 and emigrated to Geneva, where he became a Swiss citizen in 1732. From 1735 until 1750 he was in a partnership with Jean- Pierre Thuillier and together they created fine high quality gold watches decorated with enamel and porcelain. Terrot and Thuillier also produced a number of religious clocks.
