A gentleman's nearly as new Geneva wristwatch with chronograph, perpetual calendar, leap year indicator and moon phase
Case: 18k white gold, glazed screw back, 18k Patek Philippe white gold deployant clasp. Dial: silvered opaline dial. Movm.: bridge movement, "PP" seal, Gyromax balance.
Reference 5270 was introduced in 2011 at the Basel watch fair; it replaces the famous reference 5970 and comes in a slimmer case. The watch also has an additional day/night indication and its movement bears the "PP" signature, a new quality standard Patek Philippe set up for their mechanical watches.
This reference 5270 is a true Patek Philippe icon, with perpetual calendar and chronograph; it is in excellent condition and runs perfectly. The special white gold model of the first series is coveted by many collectors as the finest version of this timekeeper; the first series of this reference also features blackened hands and indexes and no tachymeter scale.
The mechanical movement is visible through the sapphire glass back; the watch has two white sub-dials with engine-turned pattern for the auxiliary second and for the 30-minute counter, also an aperture for the phase of the moon that is combined with the date indication. Two windows at "12" show day and month; two small round apertures between "4" and "5" and "7" and "8" show day/night indication on the left and the leap year on the right. The modern case with its impressive 41 mm size is an eye catcher on the wrist and the fluted, slightly curved lugs make for a fine contrast to the circular case shape. The calibre CH 29-535 PS Q is the first in-house calibre Patek Philippe ever used for a perpetual calendar. Earlier versions of the perpetual calendar with a chronograph used a Lemania-based ebauche. Calibre CH 29-535 PS Q has a clutch on the side and a column wheel chronograph with a slim module for the perpetual calendar. The chronograph has an exclusive patented tooth profile for the chronograph wheels, a cap for the column wheel and a minute-counter cam with a slot to prevent abrupt blocking in response to the reset command.
