Rugendas à Augspurg, 61 mm, 149 g, circa 1720
A rare pair-cased verge pocket watch
Case: outer case - bronze, silver, lacquer. Inner case - silver. Dial: silver champlevé, central cartouche with chased and engraved high relief. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, large three-arm iron balance.
The centre of the dial is decorated with a relief cartouche showing two female figures; one of them holds a candle in her hand, the other a sword. Together they are raising a royal crown above the letter G.
The watch was possibly made by watch and compass maker Nicolaus III. Rugendas (1665-1745), of the famous Rugendas family in Augsburg.
