Pierre Louteau à Lyon, 47 x 70 mm, 197 g, circa 1625
An oval pre-balance spring pendant watch with single hand, alarm and sun dial
Case: brass, firegilt, open-worked and ornamented case band, hinged front cover with sun dial, rear bell. Dial: firegilt mask with engraved view of Lyon, applied silver chapter ring with Roman numerals, trunable engraved alarm disc with radial Arabic numerals and engraved flower in the centre. Movm.: oval full plate movement, gut/fusee, verge escapement, 1 hammer, applied click work, plain two-arm iron balance without balance spring.
A table clock in the shape of Atlas, attributed to Pierre Louteau is held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
The records of Brian Loomes show that Pierre Louteau was mentioned as a watchmaker in Lyon between 1604 and 1628.
