A rare pair-cased gold enamel verge pocket watch with four-colour gold decor, miniature portrait and corresponding three colour gold chatelaine with signet and key
Case: outer case - gold and polychrome enamel. Inner case - 18K gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance.
This elaborately finished ensemble consists of a verge pocket watch with corresponding chatelaine and is decorated with multi-colour gold ornamentation. The back of the watch shows a polychrome enamel medallion with a miniature portrait of a lady in period costume. The portrait is framed by a baroque-style, four-colour gold tendril of flowers and leaves. The gilt movement has also been finely executed and has an open-work, silver-coloured balance bridge with floral motifs. The chatelaine has a signet and a watch key and is decorated with red and green gold petals; its total length is 340 mm.
