Edward White, 20 Cockspur Street London, Case No. 729, 50 mm, 114 g, circa 1861
A remarkable double-sided pocket chronometer with two time zones
Case: 18k gold, engraved oak leaf pattern, case maker's punch mark "AN" (Adolph Nicole, entered 29 November 1854). Dial: front side - enamel, auxiliary seconds at "9". Reverse side - engraved, silvered chapter ring, centred wheel with engraved signs of the zodiac. Movm.: 1/2 plate movement, spring detent escapement, gold screw compensation balance.
Edward White worked at Dent’s, a renowned maker of chronometers, watches and clocks at 20 Cockspur Street; their work was reputed to be among the finest of its kind in London. The company won medals at the exhibitions in London in 1862, Dublin in 1865 and Paris in 1867.
